New Trustees and Chair!

We are looking to recruit five Trustees who are passionate about opening up music to young disabled musicians! We are also looking for one new Trustee to take on the role of Chair. These are exciting opportunities to support a wonderful organisation at an important stage of its development.

You do not need to have been a trustee before. Our Board is not an exclusive club. It is made up of a collegiate, supportive group of people who bring lived experience and valuable insight from a variety of different backgrounds. We can provide you with access to lots of training and support.

This is a brilliant opportunity for you to use your skills, experience and insight to ensure our organisation is delivering maximum impact for young disabled musicians. Together with the rest of the Board, you will provide the oversight we need to ensure our dedicated staff team deliver on what we say we will and that we use the money we raise as effectively as possible.

Diversity, equity and inclusion are at the heart of who we are. We take our responsibility to acknowledge, challenge and dismantle barriers within music extremely seriously. We know that having a Board that reflects the diversity of the young people we work alongside is key. To that end, we welcome applications from everyone but are particularly seeking applications from disabled people.

Systems of privilege, structural disadvantage and barriers to participation often intersect with one another. For this reason, we particularly welcome applications from people from other structurally disadvantaged backgrounds and underrepresented groups. This may include people from communities experiencing racial inequality, migrants, refugees, non-binary people, people who identify as LGBTQIA+ and/or people from economically disadvantaged backgrounds.

As part of our Board, you will be supporting Open Up Music at a pivotal point in its development. Over the next 5-years, in partnership with some of the UK’s leading arts and cultural organisations, we plan to increase the scale and geographic reach of our programmes to support the musical development of many more young disabled musicians.

Making an Application

To apply, we need two things from you:

  1. A covering letter explaining why you are applying to be a Trustee at Open Up Music. 

  2. Some ‘Additional Information’ including your name, preferred pronouns, education, volunteering and/or employment history.

If possible, we ask applicants to provide all of this information using two forms we have created. These are in the application pack along with more information about Open Up Music and being a Trustee:

All documents are provided as Microsoft Word files but can be opened using free software such as LibreOffice. If you need assistance in completing the forms, need them in a different format or would like to provide your information in another way (for example an audio recording or video) please get in touch.

 

Once you have completed both documents, please email them to our CEO Barry at barry@openupmusic.org by 5pm on Tuesday 1st March 2022. Interviews will take place online on March 24th, please contact us if you need to explore other date options.
